My new hair style

Hair tips and fails (with photos)

I think hair has a bigger impact on style than any item of clothing. I like to have a hair style that makes a statement, so I can wear really simple clothes and look dressed without needing jewelry or any non-functional accessories or layering.

Some of you probably became familiar with my style when my hair looked like this.

I was spending a ridiculous amount of time and effort to mold my naturally wavy, frizzy locks into a Betty Draper-esque bob. My hair doesn’t like heat or humidity, so I’d use these clips to sculpt it into the shape I wanted. It took pretty much an entire day to air dry, and then I’d be set for four days until I washed it again. Honestly, it was insane.

My hair became such a big part of my style and identity that it almost felt like a costume, and I decided to stop maintaining it. I’ve tried a bunch of lengths and styles over the past few years, and I think I’ve finally landed on something that works and feels like me. It’s super low maintenance, embraces my natural texture, and makes enough of a statement to level up my super simple clothes.
